Good morning, book friends! I don’t want to be a broken record, but yet here I am telling y’all again that life has been bananas this week. I have tried numerous times to read and to hop on bookstagram to interact with all of you, but every time I sit down to do something for myself I get pulled away to help my kids with their schoolwork. They are in the middle of switching to new teachers, so I’m hoping things calm down soon. The way it’s looking though I may just have to change up my routine and instead of telling y’all good morning it may be good evening. We’ll see. Just know I’m not leaving you guys and I’m trying😊

Just like I’m promising all of you that I’m trying my best, I have to tell my books the same thing. My TBR bookshelf is full and I know it’s giving me the side eye every time I walk past. There’s some chunks on there that can just keep on waiting, but I also have books that if these were normal times I could read them in a day or two. These are the ones I’m hoping to get to before the end of the year. It just might take me a week to read them instead of a couple of days.

What books are you hoping to read before the year ends?

Hey there, book friends! What are you currently reading? I have had next to no time to read for myself this past week, but I’m trying to get in Warmaidens. I did manage to finish Matilda with my kids though. Small victories!

I’d never read Matilda or watched the full movie, so I was so surprised to learn that Matilda isn’t actually a witch!! Why in the world did I think she was a witch?! Anyway, I enjoyed the story just like every other Roald Dahl book we’ve read so far. Now to decide what to read next😊

Happy Friday, book friends! Do you ever buy whole series without having read the first book? What series? I don’t do it a lot, but I am definitely guilty of this. It usually happens when I see a book I’ve heard a bit about in the clearance section at Books-A-Million. What can I say, I’m a sucker for a good deal.

Anyway, that’s what happened with this series. I first saw And I Darken in the sale section, and having read a few of Kiersten White’s books and seeing it all over Booktube I decided why not get it. I really had every intention of reading it before the next book, Now I Rise, became available, but that didn’t happen. I did snag the it when it showed up in the clearance section though🤷🏻‍♀️ By the time the 3rd book, Bright We Burn, was released I was tempted to pay full price, but still hadn’t read those first two books. Ugh, I’m ridiculous. Well, a few weeks ago when I went to buy Midnight Sun I checked the sale section and lo and behold the 3rd book was available. So now I have the complete series! I really hope I like it. Otherwise I’m a fool🙈 Fingers crossed!

Good morning, book friends! Do you ever play cards? My husband and I play rummy at least once a week. So, whenever I see cards with fun designs I buy them. You’ve got to keep things interesting, right? Anyway, I was so upset when I missed out on the Owlcrate box these gorgeous Throne of Glass playing cards were in, but I was able to snag them from the shop a couple of weeks ago🙌 I haven’t had a chance to use them for rummy yet because my daughter likes to play war with me in between her virtual learning classes and we’ve been using these cards to play. The first time I pulled them out she asked why there was a lady on the King card. I told her that was Manon and she’s an awesome witch that rides a dragon. My daughter said oh my gosh that’s amazing-I get it. Gotta love her! It was so fun to tell her about each character and see her get so excited about being able to read the books one day! The card with Aelin is her favorite. She gets the biggest smile whenever it shows up. She says Aelin is so pretty like her❤️ Now to actually use these cards for rummy so I can maybe convince my husband to read ToG, too!

Good morning, book friends! I am finally able to post and interact with all of you again🙌 I don’t know why Instagram decided to block my actions for sharing in my bio that I’m a rep for one specific company and allow all the other companies, but that’s the way it is. It’s not ok, but I’m glad to know what was causing the issue.

Friends, all this bookstagram stress this weekend had me wishing life was still normal cause I really could have used my happy place – and by happy place I mean the shopping center with my favorite Mexican restaurant and Books-A-Million I used to visit weekly before Miss Rona ruined everything. But, instead of drinking a margarita and browsing books I made myself feel a little better by sniffing a candle that smells like a margarita and looked at books I already own😂 Someone please let me know I’m not the only one who sniffs their candles when they’re feeling a little down! If you don’t do that then what is something you do for yourself to raise your spirits?

The yummy margarita smelling candle is The Capitol from Salty and Lit. If you’d like one for yourself or really any of the other amazing candles Jill creates use the code Reads10 to save 10% off😊

The Nemesis by S.J. Kincaid

The Nemesis by S.J. Kincaid

Today, I want to talk about The Diabolic series by S.J. Kincaid. I just finished the third and final book in the series, The Nemesis and holy Toledo this conclusion was amazing! But before I say anything else about this last book, I need to say that every time I am in Books-A-Million, I see multiple copies of The Diabolic (and now also The Empress) in the bargain section for $3 or less. Heck, I even got my copy from that bargain section 3 years ago! It really just boggles my mind that this amazing series is just flying under the radar. I mean, in the year that I have been on Bookstagram, I have seen The Diabolic talked about twice, which is a damn shame. I love this series so much, that it was one of the very first series I talked about on the Bookstagram platform, and whenever someone asks for an underrated series, this is the one I recommend they should read.

Welcome to Belle, Book & Code.

Welcome to Belle, Book & Code.

Hello, world! Isn’t that what you’re supposed to say when you start a blog? Well, if you’re here because you follow me, Shannon, on Instagram — then hello, book friends — and welcome to our blog! My husband, Jamey, and I are so excited to start this new adventure with all of you. So, let’s get on with the introductions and what you can expect from us over here in our little corner of the internet.

I’m Shannon, a 33-year-old stay at home mom and professional reader. Yeah, that’s right, I work my butt off on the daily with no pay. But that’s ok, because my better half, Jamey is a 34-year-old Senior Application Security Engineer for a major financial institution here in the United States. He’s a Certified Ethical Hacker working the long hours protecting people’s livelihoods from the bad guys, all while making enough for us to live comfortably. Jamey and I have been together for the last 14 ½ years, and we celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary this past Valentine’s Day. We share two beautiful children together, as well as two cats (and if you really want to get technical, we also have two fish that live under our roof).

Jamey has dreamed of us starting a joint blog about books and coding for as long as I can remember. I personally didn’t think anyone would care about what I had to say. For a while my life was full of dirty diapers and sleepless nights. Yeah, I could have shared my thoughts on books, but without an IV of caffeine the posts would have been those of a madwoman. Well, two months ago my life completely changed. Both of our children were about to start school full time, and I decided it was time for me to get my feet wet in the book blogging world. So, I started my bookstagram page, and y’all, I was (and still am) blown away by all the support I have received from the bookish community. Your kind words and encouragement have helped me to finally feel ready to dive into this whole blog idea, and Jamey couldn’t be more thrilled.

So friends, Jamey loves all things computer-related, and if I’m being perfectly honest, I care nothing for technology. He will be a vital part of our team making sure the blog runs smoothly, and he will also provide information to any of you that are interested in the magical world of coding, hacking, and computers. Jamey is also a reader when he can get a spare moment, so be on the lookout for his thoughts on the books he reads and if we happen to read the same book — lucky you — because you’ll get two reviews for the price of one click!
